Have you got the keys of your house?

In a way or other, I’m sure you do. You are sefardí, heir of a tradition, not only Jew, but Hispanic.
You may not keep them in your house, but for sure, that special set of keys still hangs in that special place where your grandgrandfather used to have it, and it burns in your heart, nevertheless he threw them to the sea.
And now, in a way or other, the Spanish Government offers an apology. Maybe not as open as you would like, but it is almost as good as the one offered by the Pope John Paul 2nd.
And here we get to know that the Govt’ has just passed a draft to reform the Civil Code, offering the Spanish citizenship to all whose Sephardic origins can be certified.
The process may not be as fast as the Community would like, but as it has been drafted, it’s going to be very, very simple: a Certificate from the Secretaría General de la Federación de Comunidades Judías de España would do the job. You don’t have it? Well, a Certificate from any rabbinical authorities of your country of origin would do, as long as it is translated to Spanish and apostilled.
These are the first documents to be presented to the immigration authorities. The solicitor has the burden of proof of its Sepharadite condition, and the Draft is crystal clear on that point.
The 1492 Edicto de Granada’s still a heavy weight on the conscience of Spain, not only for its well known unfairness, but (let’s be clear) for the convenience of attracting new capitals and investments for the country.
Let’s do some pressure. Tell your Rabbi about it. Let your voices ring.
It’s gonna happen!
I’m going to keep you posted. Follow me at http://bit.ly/17Pt5Q3. And if you want additional info, don’t doubt, call me at +3467 5720786.

And if you ask, I’m a simple goy, that’s it. But I always heard with great respect the stories of the Diáspora, as well as my soul has been filled with sour pain with the untellable stories of the Shoah.
I haven’t been there. True. But the sorrow’s still there.
